- Smooth fine lines and wrinkles. If you’d like to enjoy younger looking skin, Botox treatments may be the solution you seek to temporarily smooth fine lines and wrinkles around the lips, between the eyes, on the forehead, and around the corners of your eyes (crow’s-feet).
- Soothe symptoms of migraines, bruxism, and TMD. If you’ve been suffering from migraines, bruxism (jaw clenching and teeth grinding), or TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder), Botox treatments may be able to help you find relief. By temporarily inhibiting the neurotransmitters that tell muscles to contract, Botox may help ease tension, reduce pain, and improve jaw mobility and function.
What is Botox?
Officially known as botulinum toxin type a, Botox is a neurotoxin that is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The therapeutic value of Clostridium botulinum was discovered when scientists were researching the bacterium as a treatment for strabismus (crossed eyes) in the 1970s. As it turned out, what we now call Botox was equally effective in treating crossed eyes and wrinkles between the eyebrows!
How does Botox work?
Botox injections temporarily quiet signals between nerves and muscles, creating localized muscle immobilization. As targeted muscles produce very little movement during the treatment cycle, the overlying skin also moves less, giving your skin a smoother and younger-looking appearance.
When used to treat migraines, TMD, or bruxism, the localized muscle relaxation of Botox injections may help alleviate tension, reduce pain, and improve jaw mobility, comfort, and function. The results of Botox injections generally last between one and six months.
NTI Migraine and TMJ Treatment
Though the underlying cause for morning migraines and tension headaches can be complex or unclear, grinding or clenching the teeth, especially during sleep, is often the culprit.
