Restoring Your Tooth to Its Former Glory

Have you ever experienced tooth decay? Or have you ever had a broken, cracked, or weakened tooth? If so, dental crowns can be used to restore your tooth’s function, shape, appearance, and strength.

A dental crown is an effective treatment used by dentists to restore a tooth that has decayed or has been damaged in one way or another. Dental crowns work by fully encasing the damaged tooth, repairing and filling a tooth decay, or bonding a dental bridge.

Dental crowns have distinct advantages over other tooth treatment alternatives. We will help you understand some of the advantages you’ll gain from accessing dental services at Harris Dental. But first, let’s look at the different forms of dental crowns on offer that may benefit you and your needs.

Porcelain Crowns

A porcelain crown is one of the most popular types of crown used these days. The crown is entirely made of a translucent and durable dental porcelain material, closely resembling the texture, color, and sheen of a natural tooth.

Porcelain crowns are designed to function and fit well with your bite. If you are experiencing metal sensitivity or allergy, a porcelain crown is the best choice. They provide the most natural appearance for your tooth replacement and are designed to match your other teeth.

At Harris Dental, you will receive a porcelain crown placement in just two visits. For the first visit, your damaged tooth structure has to be removed by numbing the treatment area using a local anesthetic. Upon removing the decayed tooth, a hygienist takes precise impressions, or the tooth itself, to be used in the dental lab to design you a perfectly fitting tooth.

To cover up the dental space for the time being, Dr. Harris fits you with a temporary crown, which seals and protects your tooth until the customized permanent crown is ready for you.

When you visit for the second time, the dentist removes the temporary crown and ensures that the prepared tooth is clean. Once the tooth is refined and the crown’s fitness and ability to feel have been checked, Dr. Harris carefully bonds the porcelain crown to your tooth using a durable dental cement.

Apart from providing the best and most natural look to your teeth, porcelain crowns are biocompatible; that is, since there is no metal used, they are toxic-free. They are also the best option for the restoration and replacement of your front teeth.

Same Day Crowns

These types of crowns can be provided for you in a single visit. It is for this reason that they are also referred to as single visit crowns. At Harris Dental, we are here to solve your tooth problem in just a single day.

Within this one day, Dr. Harris prepares your damaged tooth, takes digital impressions, and creates a customized crown for you in our office. With same day crowns, it won’t be necessary for you to leave the appointment with a temporary crown on your tooth.

Same day crowns are designed and developed using advanced dental technology, commonly referred to as the Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC). CEREC uses Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to safely and painlessly establish precise digital images of your teeth and mouth.

CEREC then uses these images to create a customized crown from a solid ceramic block. The artistic dentist, Dr. Harris, then proceeds to finalize the process by securely bonding this crown to your prepared tooth. The whole dental procedure can be done in less than three hours.

Below are some of the advantages of same day crowns for patients.

  • Saving You Time

Same day crowns can be done in less than a day. This means that you will have one less visit to the dentist’s office, and there is no wait time in between. Therefore, same day crowns save you valuable time as well as energy.

  • Enhancing Comfort

Temporary crowns, used by the porcelain crowns and other tooth treatment techniques, tend to cause tooth sensitivity and make it tough for you to chew normally while waiting for a permanent crown to be milled. Same day crowns save you the pain of tooth sensitivity since they do not require temporary crowns.

They also spare you the discomfort caused by gooey impressions, thanks to the development of digital impressions.

  • More Durable

Same day crowns can last for between 10 to 15 years or more if properly cared for and maintained. Maintenance practices include proper brushing and flossing of your teeth; regular dental visits; eating less-sugary foods; abstaining from smoking; and refraining from chewing hard, non-food objects.

  • Enhancing Your Beauty

Due to the advancement in dental technologies such as CAM and CAD, our dentist, Dr. Harris, accurately matches the appearance, shape, and sheen of your natural tooth. This enhances the beauty of your teeth and gives you the beautiful smile you desire.
